THE CREATION OF A NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD BUILT AROUND ENTERPRISE, CULTURE & LIVING
St. John’s is the creation of a brand new neighbourhood for the city, it’s a place based around the three key pillars of enterprise, culture and living. It will become a vibrant, sustainable, walkable neighbourhood where there are no boundaries between enterprise, culture and living – it will be one community in one neighbourhood.
In 2014 Allied London launched the first consultation for the development of the St. John’s neighbourhood. Since then, the vision has developed into one of Europe’s most highly anticipated regeneration and development programmes, aiming to create a whole new neighbourhood for the city of Manchester and in turn raising the city to be a world leader in the tech, media and creative industries.
St. John’s is located on the former Granada TV Studios estate, where Ralph Tubbs’s iconic Granada House was at the centre. It isn’t a listed building, but it is a culturally significant Manchester architectural icon, it was the headquarters of ITV and Granada between 1956 and 2013. Granada House was the first commercial building to be built in the city after the war, and its studios played an integral part in Manchester’s post-war regeneration.
The overarching vision for St. John’s is to create a new city centre community with its own distinct character and sense of place, a unique way to live, work and enjoy everything Manchester has to offer. Allied London is building up the modern from the foundations of iconic heritage, ensuring a truly unique community with an exciting future.
St. John’s will allow natural innovators to live, work and play together to form an inspired and productive community. It will be a culturally enriching environment for human interaction and rich experiences from film and TV studios to Europe’s largest and newest arts and performance venue – The Factory the new home of world-renowned Manchester International Festival. St. John’s will be a beacon of culture for the north.
St. John’s is also underpinned by Enterprise City – a cluster of media, tech and modern businesses in a series of new and heritage buildings, including Booking.com, Department, Versa Manchester Studios – the new home of TV and film in Manchester, WPP, Mediacom, Code Computerlove, Auden, Tech Nation and the tech Exchange program.
Enterprise City will offer a wide and varied range of facilities and services, designed to make a complete commercial neighbourhood with workspaces to film studios, retail to restaurants, cafes to bars and start-ups to established businesses.
